I’ve always thought Decathlon was the name of a type of race (like triathlon), so suaku.
It was only after my husband’s colleague kept on waxing lyrical about this place (not a race) called Decathlon Singapore that we Googled and finally made a trip down today.
Surprisingly I wasn’t able to find many blogposts about the flagship store of Decathlon Singapore, which is the size of 30 five-room HDB flats. You can read more about Decathlon’s expansion and hiring plans here.
After browsing through the whole store twice, here is a short list of ridiculous steals of sports-related items you can purchase from this sports megastore, which is like a Royal Sporting House on steroids.
1. Affordable Footwear
If you’re into various sports, you’ll know that it is difficult to use a single cross-trainer for all.
Some sports require specific footwear, such as golf and horse-riding.
What I love about Decathlon Singapore is that it offers a range of footwear per sport, with a loss-leader cheapest price option for beginners.

2. Apparel, divesuits, and even tutus!
What if each member of the family likes a different sport? It sometimes doesn’t make sense to visit many different sports stores just to get a few items per sport.
Besides really cheap standard sportswear, you can get apparel for golf, wildlife, army, horse-riding, swimming, hiking, cycling, karate, judo and even ballet.
There are dressing rooms with curtains spread out around the megastore you can try the apparel in.
3. Creating a racket over cheap racquets
I remember how I made my poor mum spend $60 on a squash racquet when I was in Secondary 2 for an inter-team squash competition, because there simply wasn’t a cheaper option.
Hence I must applaud Decathlon Singapore for offering sports equipment at really really affordable prices so that beginners won’t burn a hole in their pocket (or their parents’).
4. The bigger the better (for product range, not prices)
If you happen to be looking for training nanchucks to channel your inner Michaelangelo (the ninja turtle, not the painter), you can find them at the judo section.
Or what about some bodyboards cheaper than 2 weekend bodyboarding attempts at the Wave House?
Cycling is becoming so popular nowadays that you definitely need a helmet and gloves to survive long routes.
Need a cheapo watch that does the trick?
I’ve never seen so many flying balls everywhere before we visited Decathlon Singapore. It sells balls cheaper than some fishball noodles.
Ripped your sports bag recently? Get a replacement at a ridiculously low price.
5. Camping isn’t such a chore anymore
In the past, I really hated camping because after years of innovation with smartphones and all, setting up a tent was so primitive.
Now you can find 2 second tents (that didn’t sound right but they are really called that) because all you have to do is open it and the tent just expands miraculously!
Another camping equipment you really need is a hanging light, and this cute lamp is so easy to turn on and can hit as many spots as you want!
No more trying to use your carabiner to clip an inverted torchlight that only shines in one spot.
Decathlon Singapore has a small but pretty range of cooler bags, which can be carried like a backpack leaving your hands free to do whatever you need to do.
For breastfeeding mums who want to camp overnight but worry about not having a fridge, these cooler bags are large enough to fit at least 4 large milk bottles of expressed milk, and may even have extra space for pump parts.
Decathlon Singapore is one place you should really visit before you make any major purchases of expensive sports items.
